LangLandia Guide Overview

For those unfamiliar, LangLandia is a Pokemon-esque game to learn Spanish. It features various game modes and several beasts used to battle. The game is highly addicting and does a great job of providing a fun way to practice words, sentences, numbers, and grammar.

Throughout my time playing the game, I noticed many similar questions from players about the game. So, I decided to create a guide to serve as a resource to answer those questions. Thanks to the help of other players in the game and researching the ins and outs of the game, I was able to assemble this resource.

Without further ado, let’s get into the guide.

Signing Up for LangLandia

Getting started is quick and easy. LangLandia is available for Android and iOS.

Langlandia App
LangLandia app in the store

After downloading the app:

  1. Open it up and enter the username you want at the signup screen.
  2. If you have a referrer, enter it on this screen by selecting the referrer button (feel free to enter my username, QuantumSpanish).
  3. Select create new user.
Langlandia Sign Up Screen
Sign up page of LangLandia

Once you create your account, an intro screen and LangLandia character, Lyss, appear. From here, you choose your first beast.

Intro Dialogue
Introduction dialogue

You can choose between a wolf, tiger, or bear. They all start at Level 1 and have the same stats, so your choice doesn’t matter. As you progress in the game, you’ll obtain much better beasts.

Choose your first beast

After selecting your beast, Lyss will give you an overview of the game areas.

Once you get to the Study & Battle area, you’ll have to choose which vocab to start with. There are three main choices and an additional option to purchase the skip ahead pack to unlock more vocabulary.

Choose Vocab
Vocab choices to start the game

You can select beginner, intermediate, or advanced as your free options.

With the beginner pack, you’ll have 50 vocab unlocked, and no head start.

Intermediate will unlock all vocabulary and books up to grade 3. Selecting this option unlocks 300 vocab.

Lastly, advanced makes 1,000 vocab and all books up to grade 6 available. Keep in mind that this doesn’t advance you in The Institution. It only unlocks the vocab for those grades.

If you’ve been learning Spanish for a while, go with intermediate or advanced. You always have the option to switch if you find the vocab too easy by going to your options page.

Choosing conversational will bring up an option to purchase the skip ahead pack. The skip ahead pack unlocks all vocabulary through grade 8, roughly 2,500 vocab, and is the same vocabulary you’d unlock if advancing through The Institution. If you choose not to purchase it right away, you can do so after the initial setup.

Some of the other benefits include:

  • 25 books in the game
  • Access to the weekly events
  • 2 additional daily attacks in the arena (You’ll get 7 instead of 5)
  • An extra 100 coins or 3 points per day
  • Level 25 dragon
  • 10 points
  • 3 traps
  • 500 coins

The cost of it is $6.99. I wouldn’t get it since you can get all of the same vocab, books, and dragon for free eventually.

It unlocks weekly events because you need to have a beast of a certain level to do most of them. However, this is something you can achieve quickly through regular play.

Next, we’ll cover advice for beginners.

Advice for Beginners in LangLandia

The game has a lot to offer, so it’s easy to get overwhelmed with everything to do. Therefore, aside from reading through this guide, it’s best to explore the various areas slowly.

Start with Play & Learn to get used to the vocabulary you’ll use in all game modes. It allows you to master the vocabulary and accumulate points to level up your beasts, so you’ll be more competitive in online contests and get through the institution easier.

Play & Learn Selected
Click button to go to the Play & Learn area

The next thing to focus on to accumulate coins, points, chests, traps, and food is doing the daily quests and quests for fluency points. Do these two things daily, and you’ll quickly build up a decent inventory. Earning fluency pass points and getting to level 50 is a great way to earn an infamous level beast that will give you an excellent start to the game.

Time-sensitive Items

While most things in the game aren’t time-sensitive, there are some items that require your attention at the start since they are only available for a limited time. These are the titles and one-time offers to be aware of.

Titles

So far, there are five known titles that are time-sensitive. As a newbie, if you can obtain these, you’ll get a leg up on boosting your beast with titles seasoned players won’t have. Since the titles were instituted in the December 2022 update, only players who started around that time or after can obtain these. These titles require you to accomplish something on the first day, week, or within the first 45 days.

The titles are:

  • Off to the Races
    • Description: Get 2,500 correct on the first day
    • Boost: +2% Attack and +2% Life
  • Institution Wizard
    • Description: Graduate from the Institution in the first week
    • Boost: +2% Attack and +2% Life
  • Unlimited Potential
    • Description: Get a 1600 rating in the arena within 45 days of starting
    • Boost: +2% Attack and +3% Life
  • Heart of a Hero
    • Description: Get 10,000 correct in the first week
    • Boost: +2% Attack and +2% Life
  • Spirit of a Champion
    • Description: Get 100,000 correct in the first week
    • Boost: +3% Attack and +4% Life

One-time Offers

As a new player or someone starting on a new language server, eight one-time offers are available as you level up your beast for the first time. These offers will pop up on the main screen area as you cross the various beast-level thresholds.

The levels that these offers are available as follows:

  • Level 7
  • Level 14
  • Level 20
  • Level 30
  • Level 40
  • Level 50
  • Level 60
  • Level 70

In my opinion, the level 60 offer is the best value and the only one I’d seriously consider. However, it all depends on your goals in the game. Below are the details of what each offer includes.

Level 7

Price: $1.99

  • 9,000 coins
  • 20 points

Level 14

  • 8 traps

Level 20

Price: $6.99

Items Offered:

  • Level 70 Minotaur
  • 6,000 coins
  • 20 points
  • 10 traps
level 20 offer
Level 30

Price: $8.99

Items Offered:

  • Level 31 Direwolf
  • 10,000 coins
  • 20 points
  • 15 traps
level 30 offer
Level 40

Price: $15.99

Items Offered:

  • The Ultimate Collar
  • 12,000 coins
  • 20 points
  • 20 traps

The Ultimate Collar costs $19.99 if available for a daily deal or 50k coins in the store. The deal on the Ultimate Collar is what makes this offer valuable. However, if waiting until the Level 60 offer, you can get a better collar (Collar of the Gods) and extras for $27.99. That is a much better value.

level 40 offer
Level 50

Price: $21.99

Items Offered:

  • Level 70 Forest Fairy
  • 15,000 coins
  • 30 points
  • 18 traps

The big get in this one is the Level 70 Forest Fairy. It usually costs $42.99 in the beasts section of the store and is available for purchase every other day. As a daily deal, the Forest Fairy is available for $19.99. Keep in mind that you’re obtaining a level 62 Forest Fairy in the store and the daily deal. Here, it’s Level 70. The Forest Fairy can also be trapped in the Dark Hedges section of the map in Journey mode or won in a rare contest.

level 50 offer
Level 60

Price: $27.99

Items Offered:

  • Collar of The Gods
  • 15,000 coins
  • 50 points
  • 20 traps

The Collar of the Gods regularly costs $59.99 or 140k coins. However, you get the collar, coins, points, and traps for less than half that price in this deal. In my opinion, this is the best of the one-time offers based on value.

level 60 offer
Level 70

Price: $39.99

Items Offered:

  • Level 70 Red T-rex
  • 40,000 coins
  • 60 points
  • 40 traps

The Red T-rex is ordinarily only obtained via purchase with 150k coins in the store or captured in the Crystal Pillars area of the map. So, this will be the rare instance where it can be purchased with actual money. Unlike buying it with coins, you get this one at Level 70, whereas when purchasing it in the store, you have to level it up from level 40, which takes roughly 350 points.

The Cabin

To access the cabin, click your beast in the center of the screen. In this area, you’ll find several items.

Stats Area

First, you’ll notice you have the same top bar as on the main screen, which displays your username, vocab mastered, class rank, login streak, points, and coins.

On the left is a display of your beast stats. It lists the beast level along with the ability to add points.

If beast is maxed (level 70), the button will be grayed out and say maxed. You won't be able to add points to it.

If beast is not maxed, button appears purple and you can add a point.

The next portion shows the attack, titles bonus, life, loyalty, and battle wins for the main beast. If you’re looking at a secondary beast, you’ll see speed after the attack section instead of the title bonus. This is because only the beast in the main slot gets title bonuses.

The numbers displayed on the far right in the attack and life sections in blue are the base stats of your beast. These do not include any boosts from collars, loyalty, spirits, battle xp, encouragement, or titles.

The green number on the left is the percent boost earned from loyalty and encouraging/petting your beast. You’ll notice green dots on the loyalty meter. Each one represents 2%. The loyalty boost maxes out at 22%.

**thank you to users @VioletAce for bringing the encouragement counter to my attention and @Joebadiah for doing research to discover the tiers and title

At 5,000 pets, you receive the Cuddle Buddy title, which gives a base boost of 7B attack and 600B life. This is beast-specific, so it will only apply to the beast you pet 5,000 times if they are in your main beast slot. If you pet your beast 10,000 times, you’ll earn the Soulmates title. This provides a boost of 21B and 1,500B and replaces the Cuddle Buddy title.

You can encourage your beast every 7-10 seconds. So, it’d be good practice to use the encourage/pet feature each time you feed your beast.

To pet your beast, tap on the one you want to encourage. You’ll see a hand icon and a comment of encouragement, followed by the beast’s reaction.

Collar and Gemstones Boost
Collar and gemstones boost in orange. This collar has two gemstones attached to it that boost attack by 1.5%.

Percentages indicated in purple represent the boost a spirit attached to the beast gives. Spirits come in common (1), rare (2), and legendary (3) levels with varying boost percentages. Common spirits provide the least boost and legendary the most. However, percentages vary even within the category of spirit.

To view title bonus boosts, tap the “Titles Bonus” area. Attack bonuses are on the left, with the percentage increase first and the points increase second. On the right is the life boosts. Again, percentage first, then points. If you have the Ultimate Team title that ties to a specific beast, those point boosts won’t be included in the points boost number you see.

Points

Points give you the ability to level up your beast. Leveling up your beast makes it more powerful and helps unlock other portions of the game.

You get points in various ways, such as:

  • Chests
  • Completing daily quests
  • Completing achievements
  • Contests
  • Daily free points in the store
  • FP daily points
  • Play & Learn

As a free member, the store offers one free point, two points and 100 coins for watching a 30-second ad, and lastly, if you switch your settings, you can receive 3 additional points instead of 100 coins daily.

Free Members Rewards Store Area

Use the toggle to choose between points or coins for rewards

To win them in Play & Learn, you’ll need to win multiple matches. You get a certain number of XP after each battle, and once the meter fills, you receive a point. As you play more, the XP needed to earn a point increases. However, it maxes out at 801 XP.

Coins

In LangLandia, you can buy beasts, collars, food, chests, and traps using coins.

There are many ways to get coins:

Potions

Potions restore health to your beast while battling. You can use up to two per battle while in Study & Battle, The League, The Institution, The Speech Institution, and Clan Boss battle modes.

Acquire potions via:

  • Chests
  • Contests
  • Completing daily quests
  • Finishing achievements
  • Conversations with Liam and Lyss
  • Answering book questions in the library
  • FP Daily Points Rewards
  • Defeating a Fluency Road boss
  • Training
Using potions
Use potions by clicking the icon at the top of the screen

To use them in battle, click the potion bottle at the top of your screen. Since Play & Learn matches don’t matter, avoid using them there and instead utilize them in The League, Clan Bosses, The Institution, and The Speech Institution.

Food

Use food to boost beast loyalty which increases the overall strength of your beast. You can feed your beast once per hour. Feeding your beast boosts its loyalty by one point if you are a free member. However, Fluency Pass members increase beast loyalty by two points when feeding it.

To feed your beast, click the Feed button when it is green to feed your currently selected beast. If the icon is gray, then you aren’t able to feed your beast yet.

The ways to obtain food include:

  • Chests
  • FP Daily Points Rewards
  • Purchasing in the store
  • Collecting it on the map in Journey mode
To see how many loyalty points your beast has and the number needed to advance to the next loyalty tier, go here.

Equipping Collars

You can click below the inventory section to equip a collar to your beast. You will be able to choose from the current selection you have available. The boosted percentage provided by the collar will show in the stats section on the left of the cabin screen.

There are a total of 13 collars in the game. I have broken them down by tier.

Collars can be obtained in the following ways:

  • Super Chests – collars up to The ONE collar can be obtained in these
  • Chests – Collars up to The Ultimate Collar can be obtained in chests. However, the better the collar, the rarer the chance of getting one in a chest.
  • Play & Learn Area – In the Play & Learn area, you can battle beasts to earn stars. If you earn enough stars, you can get collars in the Rewards section. The highest obtainable collar here is The Ultimate Collar.
  • Contests – These can be earned in Exams, The League, Weekly Events (Correct Cup, Even Arena, Boss Royale, Exam Battle), and Monthly Events (FP Users Only)
  • One-time offers – these are available to new players when they are hitting certain levels with their beast for the first time. An ultimate collar one-time deal is available at level 40 for $15.99 and the collar of the gods deal is available at level 60 for $27.99.
  • Purchase – Collar of The Gods, The Ultimate Collar, and Unicorn Horn Spiked Collar can be purchased at all times in the store with coins. The ONE Collar can only be purchased with coins at random times when it is offered as a daily deal and will appear under the “Deals” section of the store.

Three of the collars, The ONE Collar, Collar of the Gods and The Ultimate Collar can be purchased with real money. However, this only occurs at random times and will appear under the “Deals” section of the store.

The prices are as follows. Keep in mind these are subject to change but as of June 2022 this is what the prices stand at.

    • Purchase Prices in Coins
      • The ONE Collar: 800k
      • Collar of The Gods: 140k
      • The Ultimate Collar: 50k
      • Unicorn Horn Spiked Collar: 10k
    • Purchase Prices in US Dollars
      • The ONE Collar: $169.99
      • Collar of the Gods: $59.99
      • The Ultimate Collar: $19.99

You can also sell any of the above collars to the trader in town. The sale value of the collars are as follows:

  • The One Collar: 60k
  • Collar of The Gods: 30k
  • The Ultimate Collar: 10k
  • Unicorn Horn Spiked Collar: 2,500
  • Dragonplate Collar: 400
  • Crocodile Tooth Collar: 150
  • Leather Collar: 35
  • Fur Collar: 20
  • Cloth Collar: 10
  • Feather Collar: 10
  • Iron Plate Collar: 150
  • Bronze Plate Collar: 35
  • Synthetic Collar: 20
As you progress in the game, many of the collars will no longer be useful because you’ll have stronger ones that are used with your beasts. It’s better to sell them to accumulate coins. Plus, to complete the daily quests, you’ll need to sell at least one anyways.

Beast Slots

On the bottom, you’ll find all five slots for your beasts. Early in the game, you may not have all slots available yet. However, as you progress through The Institution, you unlock more up to the maximum of five. By clicking a beast, you’ll be able to view its stats and collar equipped.

The additional slots unlock at the following levels of The Institution:

  • Slot 1: Grade 1
  • Slot 2: Grade 4
  • Slot 3: Graduate from The Institution

Selling Beast

Select the beast you wish to sell and click the “Sell Beast” button. A confirmation screen will pop up displaying the sale value of the beast.

Keep in mind that if you sell a beast and it’s the only one of that particular beast you have, it will reduce the count of beasts caught in your beastiary (found in Trap & Explore, then Beastiary in the top right corner).

If you have duplicates you don’t need, selling them will give you additional coins to put towards something else.

Sale values depend on the tier of your beast, and the values are as follows:

  • Mythical – 40,000 coins
  • Legendary – 20,000 coins
  • Epic – 4,000 coins
  • Elite – 2,000 coins
  • Very Rare – 700 coins
  • Rare – 250 coins

Assigning Beasts

In this area, you can assign your beasts to specific slots by clicking on the desired beast and clicking the “Switch” button. Assuming you have unlocked all five slots, you can set it to main, which will default the beast to use for any game mode. Setting a beast to any other place means it is the next beast to come out if you’re participating in something where all of your beasts deploy. The League is an example of this.

Spirits

The other portion of this area is the spirits section. After clicking “Beasts & Spirits” from the main cabin area, press “Spirits,” and you can view all available spirits.

These spirits are obtained by opening Super Chests. There are three spirit tiers, common (1), rare (2), and legendary (3). Obtaining legendary spirits can also earn you titles. Right now, there are six known titles for acquiring a certain number of spirits.

  • Legendary Spirit Holder
    • Description: Get 1 Legendary Spirit
    • Boost: +7B Attack and +300B Life
  • Legendary Spirit Tracker
    • Description: Get 2 Legendary Spirits
    • Boost: +14B Attack and +600B Life
  • Legendary Spirit Hunter
    • Description: Get 5 Legendary Spirits
    • Boost: +21B Attack and +1,200B Life
  • Legendary Spirit Master
    • Description: Get 10 Legendary Spirits
    • Boost: +28B Attack and +1,500B Life
  • Rare Spirit Holder
    • Description: Get 20 Rare Spirits
    • Boost: +4B Attack and +150B Life
  • Rare Spirit Tracker
    • Description: Get 40 Rare Spirits
    • Boost: +7B Attack and +300B Life

The chances of getting a spirit are rumored to be 2%; I haven’t personally been able to confirm that, though. However, when you get a spirit, you have equal odds as to which beast it will be for. So, for example, there is no increased rarity of getting a Golden Pegasus spirit over a Tiger one.

If you get a spirit that matches a beast you have, you can assign it to that beast. This spirit will boost the attack and life based on the percentage shown on the spirit card. Legendary spirits boost your beast the most and common ones the least. Boost levels can vary even within the same tier of spirit.

To place a spirit with your beast, select the spirit you wish to use. Spirits not currently in use will have a shadow. Ones in use will show the beast in full color. Next, select “Place Spirit.” This brings up a list of beasts eligible for that spirit. If you have multiples of a beast, you can choose which one to put the spirit on.

If you later want to remove the spirit, select the spirit you wish to remove and tap “Remove Spirit.” You’ll get a dialog box stating the removal was successful. From there, you can place it on a different beast if you wish. This comes in handy if you get a spirit early on and put it on a lower-level beast but then later obtain the same beast at a higher level by trapping it.

Play & Learn

The Play & Learn area is where you can practice your Spanish vocabulary while battling beasts. The categories available to you will vary depending on if you are a free or Fluency Pass member. The numbers in parentheses represent the total number of items you can unlock for that category. You unlock more words as you advance through The Institution and Fluency Road.

Speech

You can practice your pronunciation and test your vocab recall in speech mode. It’s a great way to prepare for the Speech Institution as well.

It works similarly to the standard Study & Battle mode. However, the time between questions takes a bit longer because the game needs to recognize what you said and state the correct answer after each question.

There are two achievements tied to the speech feature. First, the number of voice questions answered, and the second, voice battles won. Answering voice questions can earn up to 119k coins and winning voice battles up to 112 traps.

Keep in mind that speech mode is still a work in progress. It has its flaws but has improved since it first began. If battling and what you say is not recognized correctly, hit the reset button and try pronouncing it again.

Suggested

According to the game description on this one, it is the least seen, worst, and slowest vocabulary combined. The purpose of it is to improve your online battle results.

Worst

This category allows you to work on your worst vocab based on the percentage answered correctly. You can click on a specific area you’d like to work on (common words, numbers, verbs, sentences, grammar, or vocab pack) and then battle. Doing so allows for ample practice to improve these words. Additionally, you can limit how many words you’d like to use in the battle by using the slider at the top. Limiting the number of vocab allows you to work on the words that need the most work. As you limit the number of items, the vocab with better scores gets eliminated from the list.

Adjust the slider to limit vocab

Slowest

Vocabulary with the highest response times goes here. Often, you’ll find many newer words or phrases that you’ve seen fewer times, so it’s easy to improve those times if you limit the number of items used in battle. This section helps particularly with the arena where quick response times are crucial.

Last Seen

Given the amount of vocabulary available, especially with Fluency Pass, this category is helpful for words/phrases that have not appeared for quite some time.

Vocab Mastery

In this area, you’ll find words close to being mastered. For mastery, vocab needs to be answered a minimum of 10 times, above 80%, and within a specified time. The required time varies depending on the vocab category. By limiting the vocab used in battle to 5-10, typically, items are mastered in 1 to 2 battles.

Common words get mastered quicker since it will take 25-30 correct answers to win a battle. However, the grammar and sentences take a bit longer. As of June 2022, the sentence and grammar portion of vocab mastery doesn’t function properly. So, the best way to master those is to master all numbers, common words, and verbs first, then go through each vocab pack to tackle sentences and grammar simultaneously.

Matching

While battling in this category, you’ll only get matching questions. In easy mode, you’ll match 3 words with their Spanish equivalent. However, if battling on normal or hard difficulties, you’ll match 5.

Difficulty Level

You can select between Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties within this area. Depending on your Spanish knowledge, you can choose accordingly. For example, if you’re strong in the common words category, you might battle on the hard difficulty. However, for numbers, maybe you’ll need to play on easy if you aren’t great at them yet. You can select the difficulty level before each battle.

The amount of XP earned varies depending on the difficulty level chosen. XP goes towards filling up the bar to earn a point to boost your beast.

These are the general point totals you can expect if winning a battle:

  • Easy – 30 XP
  • Normal – 70 XP
  • Hard – 100 XP

Allow for a +/- 10 points each way for those figures. The total depends on the number and type of questions answered in a particular battle.

One additional item of note is the difference between answer options in easy mode versus normal and hard. Easy mode displays three options to answer from for common words, numbers, and verbs. Matching questions require matching three English words to three Spanish words. However, normal and hard difficulties display five answer options and matching five English to Spanish words.

Regardless of the difficulty, you’ll match with an equal-level beast. However, as you progress in difficulty, your opponent will attack faster, meaning you have room for fewer mistakes to win.

There is no consequence for losing a battle. However, you get fewer XP points and don’t earn a win to go towards the five needed to get a free chest in town.

Hands-Free and Training Mode

To enter hands-free or training mode, start a Study & Battle session, but before beginning, click one of the yellow buttons in the bottom-right corner.

Hands-free mode is an excellent way to practice your speaking. You’ll hear the word or sentence in English and say the answer in Spanish. With each correct answer, you’ll get XP to go towards earning a point. If you need to skip a question, say “proxima.”

If in the hands-free mode, you can switch to regular training mode by using the toggle. You’ll then go to the standard way of answering questions by clicking on the appropriate answer.

You’ll see “Go Until Correct” below that toggle. Hit that toggle to turn the feature on or off. This option decides whether to proceed to the following question in the event of an incorrect answer. Beneath that, you can review wrong answers.

Setting a Goal

Setting goals is a great way to accumulate additional coins. For example, you can bet some of your coins, and if you meet the goal, you earn the prize offered.

You can select goals in four different time increments:

  • 1 Hour
  • 4 Hour
  • Daily
  • Weekly
Set a goal
Click set a goal button to pull up the goals screen

Selecting a goal removes coins from your total. If you achieve the goal, you receive the awarded amount. However, no coins get awarded if you fail, and the bet amount is lost.

For example, if you set a goal where you bet 50 coins and the prize is 100, 50 coins get removed from your total, and if the goal gets met, you receive 100 coins. So, this means the total number of coins won is 50.

Free members are limited to the goal highlighted in green. In contrast, Fluency Pass holders can select the goal of their choosing.

Comments and Sentences

The last remaining section of the Study & Battle area is the comments area. Players can comment on specific words or phrases on how to remember them or explain the reasoning behind their structure.

Library

The library is where you can read an assortment of books. While they are called books, it’s mostly a series of short stories. They aren’t the length of a book, except for Don Quixote.

You’ll gradually unlock more books as you progress in the game. Answering questions from the books is a great way to earn rewards early on.

In total, you can receive the following rewards by answering questions about what you’ve read:

  • 27 Points
  • 26 Potions
  • 550 Coins

The books All Vocabulary, The Dream Phoenix, and Don Quixote do not contain questions or rewards. The earlier books are a mix of English and Spanish. However, as you unlock more books, they will ultimately be 100% in Spanish. You can click on any word within the books and see the translation.

XP

Reading does give some XP points, although, typically only two after reading for a bit. However, reading for 120 seconds is one of the requirements to complete the daily tasks. So, the XP is a bonus for what you will be doing anyway.

There is a section in achievements that awards coins for reading too. However, this is limited and maxes out at 12 hours of reading.

Submitting Fixes for Hero Gems

With the update in December 2022 came the ability to submit fixes for any errors seen in the books. While highlighting a word or phrase, click on the yellow wrench to submit a fix. The “Fix Book Mistake” dialogue box pops up.

Language Journey

Language Journey was added to the game at the end of 2023 as an interactive way to capture beasts. Previously, capturing beasts was done via the Trap & Explore section (now map). In this area, you’d click on an area of the map you had unlocked, and when the map came up, you’d see the possible beasts that could be captured. From there, you’d click “place trap,” and it was sheer chance if you caught what you were hoping for. Additionally, you wouldn’t always catch a beast that was shown on that area of the map, which added a bit more randomness to it.

With Language Journey, you can be a bit more intentional in how you use your traps. This part of the game also integrates with The Institution and Fluency Road.

Getting to Language Journey

Accessing Language Journey is done in two ways. First, by clicking the map icon in the bottom left of the main screen, selecting a portion of the map, and hitting the “Go Find” button. This doesn’t take you directly to that area of the map; it only shows the beasts in that section before jumping back into Language Journey, where you last left off.

So, if you’re traveling the map that way, this feature won’t help you.

An example of this feature is if you were just in The Floating City and wanted to get through King’s Path Part 2 to King’s Path Part 1. You arrive at the first portal in part 2 of King’s Path and click “Go to Beginning” to transport to the portal that leads to part 1 of King’s Path.

Language Journey Popup Changing Difficulty Alert Selected

The three options for handling the beast are to run away, study the category, or battle now.

Run Away

If you choose to run away, it will cost you one food, and you can continue searching for beasts.

Study the Category

As of 2/25/24, this doesn’t appear to be working as intended. I believe the intention is to be able to study the vocabulary before going into battle, where you can attempt to trap the beast. However, this works the same as choosing battle now.

Language Journey Beast Appears - Study the Category
Choosing to study the category

Battle Now

Choosing this option puts you in battle with the beast immediately, and you’ll have the opportunity to trap it, although you aren’t required to.

Language Journey Beast Appears - Battle Now
Choosing battle now

Trapping in Language Journey is done while in battle. When the beast you’re battling reaches 20% of health or below, the trap on the left lights up. You can click the trap or the “upgrade” button from there. If clicking the trap, you’ll use one trap from your inventory. Selecting upgrade allows you to use 10 or 100 traps from your inventory. Using the upgrade reduces the number of questions you need to answer in a row before trapping the beast. For sentences, it doesn’t appear to make a difference. The requirement seems to be two questions regardless of beast tier or trap upgrade. I recommend only using this if there is a super rare beast you still need to obtain and want to increase your chances of getting it. If you already have the beast and plan to sell it for coins, don’t utilize this feature since it could eliminate or significantly reduce any profit.

In Battle After 20 Percent - Selected
After the beast gets below 20% health, the trap lights up and the upgrade option also becomes available.
In Battle Trap Upgrade
If clicking upgrade, the Rare and Legendary trap options appear. If you click upgrade by accident you can avoid upgrading by clicking on the edge of the screen outside of the popup.

Here are the costs of using one trap and the upgrades regarding the coins you used to acquire the traps.

  • 1 trap – 350 coins
  • 10 traps – 3,500 coins
  • 100 traps – 35,000 coins

When you consider the Fire Phoenix, the best beast available for capture, sells for 40k coins, there aren’t many scenarios where I could justify using the 100 trap upgrade.

In Battle Trap Out
After you set a trap, the trap icon will appear in the middle. The green bar represents the time remaining and the section below it represents the number of questions to get correct in a row before trapping it. After each correct answer, an additional red section appears.

Once you select the trap or upgrade you want, a 15-second timer starts, and a meter shows the number of questions to answer correctly in a row before trapping the beast.

The required number of questions varies based on category and the beast tier. As of 2/25/24, research is ongoing for this. However, here is what I’ve discovered so far. There are a couple of bugs within Language Journey, so it’s tough to tell if what I’ve found will always hold true. These numbers are based on using the hard difficulty and only one trap.

So far, it appears the timer is always 15 seconds, regardless of the difficutly setting and the tier of beast you’re battling. The number of questions needed to trap a beast doesn’t seem impacted by difficulty either.

When you capture the beast, the battle ends, and a popup appears. The highest you can capture a beast at is level 50, even if you’re battling using a level 70 beast. You’ll see that the beast lost levels due to taming. If you’re using a lower-level beast to battle, then the level you capture a beast at may be lower.

Successfully Trapping a Beast

There are a couple of other items to know while in battle. First, you get up to two potions to use. These restore a portion of your beast’s health and are located to the right of your beast’s health meter. Click the potion to use it while in battle. These are available to use before or after setting a trap.

In Battle Potions - Selected

Lastly, you have three attempts to trap a beast before it runs away. If you set a trap and get a question wrong, that’s one failed attempt. However, if you still have traps left, you can lay another one and try again. After the third failed attempt, you’ll get a popup saying it got scared and ran away. You’ll also fail to trap a beast if you run out of health prior to trapping it.

Trapping for Coins

If done correctly, you can earn a lot of coins trapping beasts. However, you need to know where to look. I’ve built a dashboard documenting the beasts available in each section on the map and the areas worth trapping in for this purpose.

Metrics

First, let’s look at the key metrics to determine where to trap.

A beast is profitable if it sells for more than the price of one trap. As of 2/25/24, that is 350 coins, which ends up being any beast in the Very Rare or higher tiers.

Coins per Beast

This is the combined sale value of all beasts available in an area divided by the number of beasts available in the area. The higher the number, the more worthwhile it is to trap in that section.

Profitable Beast %

The number of profitable beasts available in an area divided by the total number of beasts available in the area. The higher the %, the more likely you are to capture a beast that you can sell for a profit.

Best Areas to Trap for Coins

So, where is it best to trap for coins? It depends on whether you are a FP or Free member and your risk tolerance.

Free Areas

  • Saber Tooth Mountain
    • Coins per Beast: 818
    • Profitable Beast %: 33%
  • King’s Path
    • Coins per Beast: 724
    • Profitable Beast %: 29%

FP Areas

  • Doom’s Drop
    • Coins per Beast: 2,145
    • Profitable Beast %: 50%
  • Crystal Pillars
    • Coins per Beast: 1,545
    • Profitable Beast %: 33%
  • The Floating Isles
    • Coins per Beast: 886
    • Profitable Beast %: 57%

I suggest going to one of the FP areas since they are more profitable. However, this depends on whether you have the membership and have advanced enough in The Intitution to reach these areas.

The Fire Chasms can be very profitable if you are willing to gamble. It only has one profitable beast, the Fire Phoenix. However, this beast sells for 40k coins. I’ve had times where I get one every 100 food and others where I go 400+ food without getting one. So, this is an option if you’re willing to go for the home run and hope to get coins quicker. You’ll need more of a coin reserve to ride out times of bad luck where you may lose coins, though.  The other above options are safer bets where you won’t need to risk losing a lot of coins before a payoff.

Strategy Overview

To start, choose an area of the map you want to trap in. If you have coins available to purchase food, stock up on a good amount of food. I usually buy 100 food, which, as of 2/25/24, amounts to 3,000 coins. Next, make sure you stock up on traps. You can always visit the store while in Language Journey via the Journey Menu, so you don’t necessarily need to start with a large amount of food or traps in stock.

When you are in the area of choice, start walking around. In FP areas, I prefer to walk horizontally across the longest stretch of the map.

Walking Horizontally - Arrow
Find a section of the map you can walk across. I go back and forth horizontally but any large section without obstructions works.

The goal at this stage is to use food to run away from any beasts that aren’t profitable. So, anything that isn’t the Very Rare tier or above. If you are low on coins and can’t afford to run away constantly, you can battle the non-profitable beasts and choose not to trap them. This will take more time to build up coins but will work until you have a large enough coin reserve to use food to run away instead and speed up making coins.

Another key point is only to use one trap to capture beasts. Avoid the upgrade options since this will cut into or eliminate profits.

As an example, if a Very Rare beast appears, you can capture it and sell it for 700 coins. Here is a breakdown of profit based on the traps used.

  • 1 trap
    • 700 sale price – 350 for one trap = 350 coins profit
  • 10 traps
    • 700 sale price – 3,500 coins for 10 traps = -2,800 coins
  • 100 traps
    • 700 sale price – 35,000 coins for 100 traps = -34,300 coins

As you can see, it’s pretty evident that using a trap upgrade is bad practice when trying to make coins.

Case Studies

I tracked my results in a few areas to demonstrate how profitable capturing beasts can be. I purchased 100 food for each scenario and trapped beasts until it ran out. I ran away from any beast that wasn’t profitable to capture.

The Floating Isles

Beasts Captured:

  • Griffin – 9
    • Sold for 6,300 coins
  • Unicorn – 5
    • Sold for 3,500 coins
  • White Pegasus – 5
    • Sold for 3,500 coins
  • Black Pegasus – 2
    • Sold for 8,000 coins

The total sale value of beasts captured was 21,300. When subtracting the price of 100 food (3,000 coins) and 25 traps used to capture the beasts (8,750 coins), the total profit was 9,550 coins. I spent 1 hour and 9 minutes getting through the 100 food and trapping all the beasts. Additionally, there were a couple of instances where I failed to capture a beast on the first attempt and had to use an extra trap. So, the profit could have been a bit higher.

Doom’s Drop

Beasts Captured:

  • Sky Phoenix – 1
    • Sold for 8,000 coins
  • Black Pegasus – 5
    • Sold for 20,000 coins
  • Dragon – 10
    • Sold for 7,000 coins
  • Griffin – 6
    • Sold for 4,200 coins

The total sale value of beasts captured was 39,200. When subtracting the price of 100 food (3,000 coins) and 25 traps used to capture beasts (8,750 coins), the total profit was 27,450 coins. I spent 1 hour and 6 minutes getting through the 100 food and trapping all beasts.

Profit could have been much higher here. I did have a few instances of failing to trap a beast on the first try. Additionally, there was a bug where if I saw a Black Pegasus, Sky Chicken, or Dragon and the category was worst, last seen, slowest, or suggested, then when I went to battle, it had me face a Griffin, which isn’t native to the area.

In the case of the Dragon, this didn’t change profit. However, it occurred three times with a Black Pegasus and once with a Sky Phoenix. If not for the bug, this would increase profit by 17,200 coins. While battling a Black Pegasus, the app also crashed once, and I failed to capture one Sky Phoenix. That adds another 12,000 coins in sale value. After subtracting a trap for the Black Pegasus I could have caught if not for the app crashing, that’s an additional 11,650 in profit (I already accounted for the traps used while losing the Sky Phoenix).

If we account for the bug, the app crashing, and my failed attempt at a Sky Phoenix, the profit could have been 56,300 coins.

The Fire Chasms

I tried the same thing with The Fire Chasms. Since the only beast worth capturing here is the Fire Phoenix, I went through food much quicker. In 20 minutes, I used all of my food and caught one Fire Phoenix for a 36,650 coin profit. This is 40,000 for the Fire Phoenix minus 3,000 for food and 350 for a trap.

I grabbed another 200 pieces of food and kept trying. I caught two more Fire Phoenixes and missed out on capturing another one.

Here is a summary:

  • 3 Fire Phoenixes – 120,000 coins
  • 300 food – 9,000 coins
  • 4 traps – 1,400 coins

All of this amounts to 109,600 coins in profit in about an hour. If I had caught the 4th Fire Phoenix, it would have been 149,600.

I continued to hunt in The Fire Chasms and went through 400+ food before catching another Fire Phoenix, which resulted in losing 12,000 coins in food. This is why I suggest having a larger coin reserve to endure the dry spells in this area. You can profit big here but go through periods of nothing that can be a bit boring since you are constantly running away from beasts.

Language Journey Tips

A few things can be done to save on food or change categories while playing in Language Journey. Some of these may be considered bugs, so they could eventually be fixed and no longer work. As of 2/25/24 these tips apply.

Tapping when your character starts slowing down

As your character walks toward the point you just tapped, it will slow down when a beast is about to appear. Before your character stops and the popup appears, tap another area of the map. I typically opt for the opposite direction of where I previously pressed.

Walking to Pin -Illustrated
Character walking towards the pin. As the character slows down, click elsewhere. This allows you to see two beasts.

A beast popup will appear, and your character will start walking towards the new area you tapped. During this time, you can choose to battle the beast that just popped up, or if it’s a beast not worth trapping, you can wait until your character arrives at the new destination you tapped. The beast will often change, and the category will remain the same. Doing this allows you to save food.

Walking to Pin - First Beast
Popup appears for the first beast as you're now walking towards the new selected area.
Walking to Pin - Second Beast
New beast appears after arriving at the newly selected area of the map. The category remains the same.

Sometimes, both beasts aren’t worth trapping, but you’ll only need to use one food to find this out. Other times, you’ll encounter a better beast worth trapping once the beast changes on the popup.

In most instances, you’ll have enough time to react and choose the first beast if it’s worth trapping before it switches to the second one. However, sometimes, it changes quickly, and you could risk missing out on a good beast on the initial popup.

Closing out to switch categories

Sometimes, you’ll encounter a good beast to trap but be given a difficult category, such as grammar. If you want to change the category, close out of the app once the popup is visible. Reopen the app and go back to Language Journey. The popup for the same beast will be there, but most times, the category will change. You can do this as many times as you want. While this usually works, sometimes you’ll find the category won’t change even after doing this a few times. At this point, you’re stuck battling with that category or running away.

Grammar - Prior to closing app

Common Words - After Closing App
After closing the app, reopening and going back to Language Journey you get the same beast but a different category.

Closing before starting a battle to avoid using food

While it can be time-consuming, another option to save on food is to choose Battle Now but close the app before beginning the battle. When you reopen the app, you’ll be back at the section of the map you were in before, but aren’t required to battle the previous beast.

If you find common words or numbers easy, you can switch to those. Additionally, you can change the number of vocab it will rotate through in battle. If you adjust the slider in the top right to 5, you’ll see the same items for every question, making capturing a beast much easier. If you don’t do this, you could see sentences, numbers, grammar, and several other categories, making it much more challenging to answer the correct number of questions in a row required in the 15-second time frame to trap the beast.

Before Switching Categories - All Selected
If getting worst, last seen, suggested, or slowest the default is all types of vocab within that category
Switching to Common Words - Selected
If getting worst, last seen, suggested, or slowest you can switch to specific vocab within that category to make things easier. You can also adjust the slider at the top of the screen to limit the number of vocab.

Walk on the Paths

If you want to conserve food, your best bet is to stay on the paths as much as possible. Unless you’re walking on the edge of a path, you usually won’t be attacked by a beast. This is also a great way to rack up steps if you want one of the titles. The Floating City, Trail’s Edge – Part 2, or any FP map sections are good places to walk back and forth to accumulate steps.

Waiting to Use a Trap Until you Know the Answer

When in battle, it is easy to click the trap as soon as it lights up. However, if you have life to spare, take your time to spot the answer to the current question before clicking on the trap. This will reduce your time on the first question and provide more time to answer the rest of the questions before the timer runs out.

Navigating the Language Journey Map

To begin with, getting from one portion of the map to the next is done through what I’ll call “portals.” I’m not sure if that’s the official term, but that’s what I’m calling them. There are two in each section of the map, with the exception of East Peak since that is where you begin.

For a high-level view of navigating the map, see the below image. We start in East Peak and end in The Cliffs of Insanity. The red arrows show the flow. In some sections of the map, there are multiple sections within each of these squares. I’ll detail those instances in the more descriptive portions of the map summary below. If you see “Part 1”, “Part 2”, or “Part 3” in a section of the below image, the name will appear as the main map name within Language Journey. For instance, Meadow has three parts in Language Journey, and they all say Meadow within the game; however, for purposes of distinguishing them, I’ve labeled them separately to provide more direction when navigating the map while reading through the guide.

Lastly, within each detailed section of the map below, you’ll find an image showing how to navigate from one end of the map section to the other. This also includes labels for the names of characters, buildings, and where each portal leads. Below this, you’ll find which beasts can be captured there.

Language Journey begins in East Peak. There aren’t any buildings to explore here, so your options are wandering around to trap a beast and speaking to the two characters located on this portion of the map, Lyss and Douglas. To speak with the characters, walk up next to them to begin. Clicking on the conversation box that pops up will take you to the next portion of the conversation. Lyss provides an introduction to Language Journey, while Douglas provides a tip for the game. You’ll find a large white hand in the bottom right corner of East Peak, indicating where the portal is to advance to Trail’s Edge.

Upon entering the institution, you’ll see a counter in the bottom right of the screen showing how many teachers you’ve defeated. If you’ve completed it already, you’ll see 3/3. Go up to any of the teachers to battle them.

When getting to the portal to exit Trail’s Edge, it may not be immediately evident how to get there if it’s your first time here. The log at the bottom of the path doesn’t allow you to get by, so you need to walk along the fence and then under the bridge to cross over. This portal will take you to Trader’s Plateau.

One important piece of information here is after you pass through Part 1 of Trader’s Plateau and land in Part 2 of Trader’s Plateau, if you go back through the entrance portal of Trader’s Plateau Part 2, you are actually transported back to Part 2 of Trail’s Edge and NOT to Part 1 of Trader’s Plateau. To get back to Part 1 of Trader’s Plateau, you need to immediately go back through the portal you land in within Trail’s Edge Part 2, then go back through Trader’s Plateau Part 1 to get to Part 2 of Trader’s Plateau again.

Each new section is unlocked after an additional 10 beasts are defeated on Fluency Road. So, the first should appear once reaching L200. At this moment, it’s unknown (no pun intended) if you can capture beasts you otherwise wouldn’t be able to in other areas in these sections. After a preliminary exploration, it seems the beasts available for capture are random.

The battle online area has numerous options to explore.

Here are the areas:

Let’s take an in-depth look at each.

Exams

Beast Level Required: 6

In this region of the battle online area, you can take a 40-question exam and earn rewards based on where you rank amongst other players. The game utilizes a running timer to rank players in the event of a tie. However, you can take as long as you need. Questions consist of completing sentences and selecting appropriate Spanish words when given the word in English. There are no matching questions for exams.

Exam question
Sample question in an exam

These exams take place every other day and alternate with The League. You have 24 hours to complete the exam once the daily reset occurs.

Rewards are given based on the following brackets:

  • 1st
  • 2nd
  • 3rd
  • 4th-5th
  • 6th-10th
  • 11th-20th
  • 21st-50th

Typical rewards are collars, points, potions, and coins. The strongest collar you’ll see awarded is a Dragonplate one. Since it is a daily event, the rewards are smaller than the weekly and monthly ones.

Free and Fluency Pass members compete against each other in exams. If you are a member of a class, you’ll have the option to view your ranking amongst class members. However, rewards are only given based on ranking amongst all players.

In addition to the standard rewards, you’ll be given FP points based on your rank when the day resets. You can find the FP point breakdown here.

The League

Beast Level Required: 11

In The League, you’ll be able to fight up to 7 different beasts. As you progress, the beasts will increase in difficulty. The type of beast varies, and the difficulty doesn’t correlate to the kind of beast. Instead, it depends on which number of beast you are fighting. For example, the 7th battle will be more difficult than your 1st.

Players with stronger beasts, collars, and faster response times will be the ones to rank near the top. As you play the game longer and upgrade your beasts, you’ll find that you’ll start ranking higher.

You may find you get words and phrases you don’t recognize yet. This is because the exam uses a large pool of vocab, and sometimes it may be some that hasn’t become unlocked. Players further along and with Fluency Pass have access to more vocabulary, which puts them at an advantage.

When battling, you’ll get to use all of your beast slots against the creature you’re fighting. Once your first beast is defeated, your second one jumps in, and so on. If you have potions, you can use up to two per beast you fight.

The League bases rankings on total point accumulation. If you defeat a beast completely, that’s 100 points. If you’re only able to take down 75% of your opponents’ health, that’s 75 points.

You are not required to fight all of them to be ranked. However, to be positioned higher, you’ll need to battle all 7. In addition, to complete The League daily quest task, you’ll need to fight at least 5 of them.

The reward brackets and types of rewards are the same as the exam. When it’s not an exam day, you’ll have the ability to participate in The League. Likewise, you have 24 hours to battle in The League once the day resets.

PvP Arena

Beast Level Required: 4

The arena is where you have the chance to compete against other players online. You get an allotted number of attacks per day to use, and you also defend attacks. The more matches you win, the higher your rating.

There are various areas within the PvP arena. Let’s take a look at them.

Global Competition

Here you’ll find every player that has joined the arena. There are four leagues within the Global Competition area.

  • S League – Top
  • A League – 2nd tier
  • B League – 3rd tier
  • C League – 4th tier

The goal is to participate in the S League, which has all the best players. You need to be one of the top 50 players based on arena rating to get there. The next 100 players based on rating are put into the A League, the following 150 in the B league, and the remainder play in the C League. You can move through each league within a season as your rating improves.

Arena Rankings
An overview of the arena

You’ll want to have a decent grasp of vocab and an infamous beast or above for the S league to be consistently competitive.

Class Competition

If you belong to a classroom, it has a separate arena where you get three attacks per day. Once you click the Class Competition tab, you’ll see where you rank amongst your class within the Global Arena. If you click the Classroom Arena tab, you’ll be brought to a screen displaying your ranking within the class arena and see the separately allotted attacks you have for that. If you don’t have a classroom to join, there is a free Reddit one.

Attack

The green attack button displays how many attacks you have left. You get eight per day as a Fluency Pass holder. Free users receive five attacks. Once you click the green attack button, it will randomly select an opponent close to you in ranking to attack.

Arena - Attacks
Click the attack button to battle an opponent

Global arena attacks contain ten questions. It could be a single word, matching, or sentence question. The person to answer the question correctly the quickest will attack. The attack damage is dependent on how powerful your beast is, the type of question, and your speed. Sentence and matching questions give a more powerful attack if won than a single word question.

Winning and losing attacks influences your rating. Early in the arena season, you’ll get a larger rating boost for winning than later on in the season. If you lose to higher-ranked opponents, the hit to your ranking isn’t nearly as high as losing to a lower-rated opponent.

Buying Attacks

There are two options for buying attacks.

  • $3.99 for 40 attacks
  • $8.99 for 150 attacks

Buying attacks isn’t necessarily needed to win the arena. However, it’s an option if you enjoy attacking. Extra attacks are only beneficial to your arena ranking if you consistently win. There are also ways to get additional attacks for free through FP points rewards and training mode (Fluency Pass members only).

Defending Attacks

Below the attack button is a table displaying attacks to defend. Once someone has attacked you, you have 24 hours to defend it. It will be a forfeit if you don’t defend within that time. The number of attacks to defend each day will vary.

You will find FP challenges, practice battles, clan battles, and arena attacks here. Each of them has various icons as follows.

You’ll find a “Past Top Prizes” area displaying past top prizes in each section. Other prizes can be various amounts of coins, points, or traps.

The events cycle and follow the same order as listed above. So, after Even Arena is the Correct Cup, following that is the Exam Battle and then Boss Royale.

Boss Royale

Boss Roayle is the cumulation of points earned throughout the week from the league arena.

For example, if you had three days of the league throughout the week and had scores of 663, 578, and 614, your total for the week is 1,855. Players get ranked based on these totals.

Past Top Prizes: 4,000 coins, 12 traps

Weekly Challenges

  • Open 10 chests = 5 Potions
  • Open 50 chests = 250 Coins
  • Open 100 chests = 2 traps
  • Open 250 chests = 500 coins
  • Open 500 chests = 1,000 coins
  • Complete 20 league attacks = 5 points
  • Get top 3 in the league once = 500 coins
  • Get top 1 in the league once = 700 coins

Tip: If you are a Fluency Pass holder, the Boss Royale follows the Exam Battle event. The week before Boss Royale, save chests earned from winning battles and open them once the Boss Roayle begins to increase your chances of completing the weekly challenges.

A word of caution, be careful when opening multiple chests at once. Clicking any portion of the screen outside the chest popup box causes you to lose any remaining chests. Also, it can take a bit of time for the next chest to load, so be patient.

Even Arena

In the Even Arena, unlike the regular PvP arena, beast strength is equal for everyone. Free members receive five daily attacks, while Fluency Pass holders get eight. Obtain the highest rank possible by winning battles. The winner is the player with the highest rating at the end of the week.

Past Top Prizes: Level 40 Night Dragon, Level 40 Snow Unicorn

Weekly Challenges

  • Read for 5 minutes = 2 points
  • Read for 30 minutes = 400 coins
  • Read for 1 hour = 5 points
  • Do 20 Even Arena Attacks = 3 points
  • Do 35 Even Arena Attacks = 1,000 coins
  • Do 50 Even Arena Attacks = 2,000 coins
  • Do 100 Even Arena Attacks = 6,000 coins
  • Defend 20 Even Arena Attacks = 3 points

Tip: Save any additional attacks earned through training mode and FP rewards for this event. If you are a Fluency Pass holder, you get 56 free attacks for the week. If using an additional 44, you can get 9,000 more coins. Free users receive 35 attacks for the week. However, weekly events end 30 minutes after the daily reset, so you get another 8 and 5 attacks, respectively, to use if you’re quick.

Correct Cup

The goal of the Correct Cup is to get as many questions correct as possible from any mode. The person with the most correct at the end of the week receives the top prize.

Past Top Prizes: The Ultimate Collar, 50 points

Weekly Challenges

  • Answer 100 correct = 1 trap
  • Answer 250 correct = 100 coins
  • Answer 500 correct = 5 points
  • Answer 1,000 correct = 300 coins

  • Answer 5,000 correct = 1,000 coins
  • Buy a Weekly Total of 400 coins = 400 coins
  • Buy a Weekly Total of 3,000 coins = 2,600 coins
  • Buy a Weekly Total of 9,000 coins = 6,000 coins
  • Buy a Weekly Total of 49,000 coins = 40,0000 coins

Tip: If you decide to buy coins, doing so during this event is the best time since you get rewards based on the number of coins purchased.

Exam Battle

Exams taken normally every other day, as mentioned above, are accumulated throughout the week to give a final score—the rank in each exam determines the number of points earned.

Players receive points based on the following rankings:

  • 1st – 10
  • 2nd – 8
  • 3rd -7
  • 4th-5th – 5
  • 6th-10th – 4
  • 11th-20th – 2
  • 21st-50th – 1

So, let’s say you took four exams during a week, and you placed 1st, 5th, 14th, and 35th. The number of points received for the week is 18 (10, 5, 2, and 1, respectively). The tiebreaker is the most first-place finishes.

Past Top Prizes: 4,000 coins, 12 traps

Weekly Challenges

  • Complete 4 Exams = 600 coins
  • Get top 3 in an exam = 700 coins
  • Get top 1 in an exam = 800 coins
  • Trap 1 rare beast = 1 trap
  • Trap 5 rare beasts = 5 points
  • Trap 10 rare beasts = 5 traps

Tip: Use traps you’ve been hoarding during this week. Normally, you won’t get additional traps for using traps. However, the weekly challenges for this event allow for getting an extra six if you trap enough rare beasts and above.

Monthly

Monthly events are only available to Fluency Pass users and give out better prizes than weekly events.

The current monthly events are:

In the past, there was a monthly Exam Battle and Boss Royale. However, it is unknown if these are still in rotation.

Likes Festival

The person to get the most likes wins this contest. Players receive likes from comments left about vocab in the Study & Battle section or conversations in the general, clan, or class chats. During this time, you’ll typically see a bit more activity in the general chat and comments left on vocab for those trying to win the competition.

Past Top Prizes: The ONE Collar, Dream Phoenix

Arena Madness

The person with the most arena wins gets the top prize in this contest. Wins from the arena, classroom arena, even arena, and FP Challenges count. Daily attacks for Fluency Pass holders are limited to eight in the main arena and three in the classroom arena (you can join the free Reddit classroom). So, the best way to get more wins is to use FP challenges. Otherwise, you can pay for more attacks.

Top Prizes: 40,000 coins

Speech-A-Thon

The mission of this contest is to get the most speech questions correct.

Here are the following ways to accumulate correct speech questions:

  • Speech Institution
  • Hands-Free training mode
  • Speech battles

Training mode will be the quickest way to accumulate them since it is continuous, and you can do this while you do something else.

Top Prizes: Level 40 Forest Fairy

Goal Championship

Like the Correct Cup, the Goal Championship gives the top prize to the person with the most correct. However, the difference is that only correct questions from completing goals get included in your total. If you fail to complete the goal in the required time, the correctly answered questions don’t count—correct answers in any mode count towards your goal.

Top Prizes: Level 40 Black Unicorn

FP Battle Showdown

The victor of this contest is the one to win the most battles in the worst, slowest, and suggested vocab categories available to Fluency Pass holders. This event debuted in June 2022.

Top Prizes: The ONE Collar

FP Challenge Cup

Players compete to win the most FP challenges. There is a max of 5 challenges against a player.

Top Prizes: Level 40 Black Unicorn

War Legend

Top prize goes to the person who wins the most clan war battles.

Top Prizes: 40k coins

Beast Feast

The person who feeds their beasts the most wins.

Clans

Beast Level Required: 30

To view the clan area, you must have a level 30 beast. However, you can’t create or join a clan until you have a level 50 or higher beast.

Joining a clan is optional, but it does present something more competitive to do within the game and provides an opportunity to earn more coins. Both Fluency Pass and free members can join. However, some battles require a specified number of Fluency Pass holders to compete, usually five. So if that amount can’t be met then your clan can’t participate in that battle.

Each clan can have up to 12 members on its team. Once you click on the clans icon, a list of the clans appears. By clicking the info button, you can view the members in the clan and their stats. In addition, you can dig further into the clan’s past matchups by hitting the history button on the top right.

When you find a clan you’d like to be a part of, you can request to join it, and the administrator will decide whether or not to accept you.

You can request to join the same clan multiple times, but only one request will get sent. You only see a green checkmark that shows you’ve sent a request to a clan while you’re on the clans screen immediately after the request has been sent. So, if you exit and return, you won’t see that checkmark.

Once you request to join a clan, you can’t withdraw the request. So the request will sit there until one of the administrators of the clan makes a decision.

If the clan accepts your request after you’ve joined another one, they will get an alert that you already belong to another clan, and the request will be removed from the pending requests area. You’ll remain in the clan you were already in.

If your request is rejected, a notification isn’t sent. So you won’t know if you’ve been denied or not. If you get accepted, you’ll go to your clan’s page when in the clan area and see a message in the chat that you’ve been accepted.

Another way you may join a clan is through a personal invite from someone in the clan. This invite is viewable in your inbox and asks you to request to join the clan. So, although it’s an invite, you still need to send the request for them to approve.

Once you’ve joined a clan, you can view your team members through the members tab to see everyone’s stats and challenge them.

How Clan Battles Work

Clan battles start with the admins of each team choosing the members that will battle and in which position. The number of members battling can vary by week depending on how many players are available for each clan.

The battle starts with a 24-hour attack phase. During this time, each member facing each other has a day to send their attacks. Each attack consists of 21 questions.

Attack phase
The attack phase

Following the first day, there is a 24-hour defense period where each person has a chance to defend against the attacks. If you do not attack or defend within those 24 hours, you forfeit those attacks.

Defend phase
The defense phase

The best two out of three wins the individual matchup, and the clan with the most head-to-head wins is victorious in that matchup.

If you win your matchup, you receive 500 coins.

Tip: Sometimes you win a battle by forfeit once time expires for the defense phase, so you can’t claim your coins before a new lineup needs to be set for the next clan war. To claim your coins in this instance, go to the clan history screen, select the war, and you’ll be able to claim the coins.

To make sure you’ve claimed all past clan war purses, pull up your player card and view your clan war record, then go to the achievements page and look at the achievement that says “Win & collect x Clan War purses.” You have unclaimed purses if that number is lower than the clan war wins showing on your player card. Go through the clan war history one matchup at a time and see where you have unclaimed purses. I’ve gone back 8 months and could still claim one. Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy way to determine which matchups the unclaimed ones are in, so you’ll have to go through them individually. However, it allows you to claim coins you forgot about.

Clan Bosses

Another aspect of the clan section is bosses. You can go against one boss each day using all 5 of your beasts. For every day of the week, there is a different category.

The seven categories are:

  • Common Words
  • Numbers
  • Verbs
  • Grammar
  • Sentences
  • Speech
  • All

Each individual of the clan battles to accumulate points, and the clan with the most points at the end of the week is the clan bosses winner. You receive coins based on your team rank in clan bosses. A message is delivered to your inbox to collect the coins.

  • 1st – 500
  • 2nd – 350
  • 3rd – 200
  • 4th – 100
  • 5th – 100

Another bonus for winning the week’s clan bosses event is getting the title of Clan Bosses Boss. This gives a 2% attack boost and a 1% life boost.

Additionally, you can receive a coin bonus of 300 coins for attacking all seven bosses in the week. Clan bosses resets on Monday at 00:00 UTC during standard time and 01:00 UTC during daylight savings.

Lineup Strategy

There can be some strategy involved with setting lineups.

If you are the higher-ranking clan, you’ll appear on the left side of a clan war. In this instance, you’ll have two attacks to send if you are an odd-numbered player in the lineup. If you are an even-numbered player, you’ll send one.

On the other hand, if you are the lower-ranked clan, you’ll appear on the right side of the can war. Odd players in the lineup will send one attack and even will send two.

higher-ranked clan left side lineup
Nations as the higher-ranked clan on the left. Odd players have 2 attacks and even have 1 attack.
Nations as the lower-ranked clan on the right. Odd players have 1 attack and even players have 2 attacks.

This comes into play if you have players that perform better, either attacking or defending. You can place players in slots where they are put in the best position to succeed. Another time this comes in handy is when you are short on players, and some don’t log on regularly. By putting a player in a slot where they only need to attack once, it’s not an automatic forfeit if they don’t log on in time for the attack phase. They could still win both defenses and win the overall matchup.

Of course, you won’t always know if you’ll be the higher or lower-ranked clan. However, if you go through your clan war history, you can get a feel for when you’ll face a particular clan again. With this in mind, you can best guess if you’ll be the lower or higher-ranked clan and set your lineup accordingly.

War history highlighting the last time Nations faced Miles to Spain

In the above image, Nations just got done facing Miles to Spain. So, we look at the last time they faced them and the clans they battled next. In this instance, the next clan faced was Taki Taki, Rumba. So we assume that will be their next opponent and plan the lineup accordingly. If Nations is ranked higher than Taki Taki, Rumba, their players in odd slots will have two attacks, and players in even slots will have one. If not, it will be switched.

war history result
Clan that Nations ended up facing in their next matchup

What ended up happening here is they faced Dragons. Taki Taki, Rumba did not participate in clan wars that week. This could have been due to not having enough players, such as not having enough if it were an FP-only battle, or maybe they didn’t have enough total players or active players. The other possibility is that the lineup wasn’t set in time.

This caused Dragons to be the next matchup for Nations. So while using the history to determine the next opponent can help predict the next clan war opponent, it won’t always follow that pattern. In the event a clan war is FP only, and you see that what would be your next opponent doesn’t have enough FP members to fill a lineup, you could guess that you might face the clan after them in your next battle.

Tournaments

Beast Level Required: 35

Battle Online - Tournaments

Tournaments are a chance to battle head to head and advance through a bracket to become the champion.

There are three tiers of tournaments:

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Bronze

To advance to the next tiered tournament, you need to place in one of the top positions. You’ll find where you need to rank for each tournament you join to advance on the left portion of the screen—the more players in a tournament, the more players that move to the next tier.

Tournament Size:

  • 64 – top 4 advance
  • 32 – top 2 advance
  • 16 – winner advances

For example, to enter the silver tournament, you must get 1st or 2nd in the bronze tournament with 32 players.

Tournament joining phase
Joining phase showing timer and the number of players that will advance

Each tournament starts with a 24-hour sign-up period. Placement in the tournament is on a first-come-first-served basis. For example, the initial goal is 16 players. Once that goal is met, a green checkmark is placed next to the first 16 players. Then, the goal amount of players increases to 32. The following 16 players get a green checkmark and enter the tournament if that amount gets hit. However, if the new goal of 32 players isn’t met, the 17th person to sign up and later are not entered into the tournament.

Players with green checkmark are in while those without get to join if goal of 32 players is met

This pattern continues until the 24 hours to sign up are completed. A new tournament sign-up period starts every Sunday at 00:00 UTC during standard time and Sunday at 01:00 UTC during daylight savings.

Tournaments will be completed on the following days based on size.

  • 16 – Friday – 00:00 UTC during standard time and 01:00 UTC during daylight savings
  • 32 – Saturday – 00:00 UTC during standard time and 01:00 UTC during daylight savings
  • 64 – Sunday – 00:00 UTC during standard time and 01:00 UTC during daylight savings

How the Tournament Works

Once the tournament starts, you have a 12-hour attack period. The players facing each other have one and two attacks, respectively. Each attack consists of 10 questions.

Tournament attack phase
Attack phase

Once the 12-hour attack period ends, there is a 12-hour defense phase. This phase is where you’ll defend the attacks your opponent sent.

Tournament defend phase
Defense phase

If you fail to attack or defend within the 12 hours, you’ll forfeit that particular attack.

The person who inflicts the most damage on the other by answering questions correctly the fastest wins the attack. Whoever wins 2 out of 3 attacks advances to the next round.

The top four players in the tournament receive coins. The two losers of the semi-finals get third place. The amount of coins awarded depends on the size of the tournament and tier.

The Institution and Fluency Road

One of the main components of the game is The Institution, which is divided into two sections, the second being Fluency Road. It’s a place where you can battle beasts to advance and unlock additional vocabulary and rewards.

The first half of The Institution is free, whereas Fluency Road is for Fluency Pass holders only.

You can use all beasts in your lineup (up to 5) to defeat a boss in battle. Once one of your beasts is defeated, the next comes out. You must answer 80% of the questions correctly as well. If you beat the beast but score under 80%, you do not advance.

The Institution

The institution is where everything begins. Initially, you need a level 5 beast to start.

There are nine areas of The Institution, and each requires you to have your beast at a certain level before starting. For context, level 70 is the max level of any beast.

  • Entrance – Level 5
  • 1st Grade – Level 9
  • 2nd Grade – Level 13
  • 3rd Grade – Level 17
  • 4th Grade – Level 22
  • 5th Grade – Level 27
  • 6th Grade – Level 31
  • 7th Grade – Level 38
  • 8th Grade – Level 46

You must defeat three beasts within each grade before advancing to the next grade.

A Super Chest is received for defeating each of the first two bosses. So, you can get two Super Chests per grade. For defeating the third boss, you get new vocab, a trap, and advance to the next grade. We’ll discuss trapping beasts later. However, if you want to view that section now, click here.

Obtain the Super Chests by going to the main screen. Once there, the Super Chest area will automatically open. You don’t need to go to the main screen after defeating each boss to receive them. They will accumulate and be there whenever you return to the main screen again.

Continuing to upgrade your beast and improving your vocabulary is the key to advancing. So, utilize the Play & Learn area to improve. Once you complete 8th grade, you’ll receive rewards.

Rewards received:

  • 5 points
  • 2,000 coins
  • 5 traps
  • Fluency Road unlocked – Requires purchasing Fluency Pass to play it
  • 1 beast tier guide book – Provides a list of beasts and which are more powerful. Additionally, it provides tips on how to capture some beasts. It does not give stats of the beasts, though. For that information, click here.

Fluency Road

Fluency Road is the second portion of the game that allows you to unlock more vocabulary and increase your ranking amongst players.

Instead of 3 bosses per area, there are 25. Each victory rewards you with one potion. In addition, for every 5 bosses defeated, you receive a Super Chest. As you progress, beasts have more life and become tougher to beat. Unlike The Institution, you’ll need far more powerful beasts in the later stages of Fluency Road to prevail.

Super Chest area after defeating 5 teachers on Fluency Road

There are 150 levels of Fluency Road spread over six areas. With each area passed, you’ll unlock a large amount of new vocab.

The following vocabulary packs unlock at these particular levels.

  • Fluency Pack 1 – After completing the institute (L1)
  • Fluency Pack 2 – Fluency Road 1 (L26)
  • Fluency Pack 3 – Fluency Road 2 (L51)
  • Fluency Pack 4 – Fluency Road 3 (L76)
  • Fluency Pack 5 – Fluency Road 4 (L101)
  • Fluency Pack 6 – Fluency Road 5 (L126)

The milestones along the road include passing level 100, where the director unveils how to obtain the Golden Pegasus, and level 125, where the last vocabulary pack, Fluency Pack 6, is unlocked.

There isn’t a large reward package given like when completing the first half of The Institution. The total reward for completing Fluency Road is 5k coins. However, this is given in the achievements area and not part of a presentation when finishing Fluency Road.

In the rankings, your level will show L151 after completing Fluency Road. While the road is complete, you have the option to continue battling and upping your level. Levels are used to give your overall rank in the game. For further explanation on rankings, go here.

L151 Ranking
L151 displayed in the rankings

Your screen will appear as below once completed, and you’ll click the Fluency Road button to battle another beast and advance your level.

Click the fluency road button to continue battling past L150

An additional note is that defeating a Fluency Road teacher is a requirement for the daily quests once you purchase Fluency Pass. However, it is no longer required once you pass level 100. So, ensure you have five solid beasts (infamous or above at level 70 along with good collars and loyalty boosted) before completing a lot of Fluency Road. If you don’t, you may hit a roadblock and not be able to complete the Daily Quests due to this.

Speech Institution

Designed similarly to The Institution and Fluency Road, the Speech Institution adds a speaking component to the game.

The layout consists of the Speech Institution and Fluency Road portions. However, only three beasts require defeating at each of the 15 levels, unlike the normal institution.

The first half of the Speech Institution consists of the entrance and grades 1-8. Fluency Road has six areas.

The Speech Institution
First half of the Speech Institution with the entrance through grade 8
Second portion of Speech Institution divided into 6 areas

You’ll want to have a good handle on vocabulary before starting this portion of the game. This is because the later stages of the Speech Institution require knowing vocabulary through Fluency Pack 6. For this reason, I highly suggest doing the standard institution and unlocking that vocabulary first.

Speed isn’t a significant component of completing the Speech Institution. Instead, pronunciation and accuracy are your friends here. The game pronounces the correct answer after each question, so the time between questions is much longer than in any other game mode.

Each of the three bosses to beat will have 80k, 90k, and 100k life regardless of the level. It increases 10k with each boss you beat at a level. Your beasts get 20k life each for 100k total life spread across all five beast slots.

While the speech functionality of the game has improved since its inception, there are still some bugs to work out.

Here are a few tips you may find helpful.

  • Enunciate clearly and avoid background noise
  • Have your hands on the device and be ready to hit reset if it hears you wrong. Using the clear button doesn’t always work well.
  • If the game doesn’t register your answer as correct right away, the answer is typically wrong. There is time allowed before it accepts the wrong answer, so hit reset and try again.
  • Numbers can be spoken normally or by saying the individual numbers. Sometimes pronouncing individual numbers works better.
    • Example: 702, you can say setecientos dos or siete cero dos
  • Keep trying even if you fail. Sometimes a level will be very sentence/grammar intensive for a while, and then you’ll catch a time where it has more common words and numbers so you can cruise through it.
  • Write down the vocabulary you get wrong when the round ends. Writing it helps it stick, and similar sentences/grammar/numbers/words typically appear repeatedly.
Speech Institution Battle
Inside a Speech Institution battle

I found level 14 (the last three teachers) to be difficult due to using a lot of Fluency Pack 6 vocabulary that I hadn’t unlocked in the regular Fluency Road yet.

The payoff for completing the Speech Institution is obtaining the 5th most powerful beast in the game, the Sky Phoenix (aka Sky Chicken). Aside from being rarely awarded in a contest, this is the only way to obtain this beast. In addition, it serves as a bit of a gatekeeper to collecting all beasts and getting the Golden Pegasus. All other beasts can be captured or purchased with coins or money.

The total rewards package includes

  • 50 points
  • 10k coins
  • 20 traps
  • Level 70 Sky Phoenix

Like the regular institution, you can continue playing the Speech Institution after completing all levels. Once you complete the institution, you’ll find an L1 in the rankings under the speech column. Advancing additional levels reflects in the number after the L. Previous players have mentioned the first level after completing the Speech Institution to be difficult but easier afterward.

To continue playing another level, you’ll click the green Speech Road button with your current level next to it to play another level.

Using Different Language Servers

Here are a few things of note regarding being on different language servers:

Communication and Sending Coins

  • You can only send coins to a player on your current server
    • Example: If you both are studying Spanish and German, you can’t send coins to their Spanish account from your German account
  • You can’t send coins to yourself from one language server to another
  • When you send a message, it will show which server you sent it from. The flag of the server will be in the bottom right of the message. You can send messages to players on other servers.
  • Notifications are on a server basis, so you’ll want to update them for each language server you are on.

Create/Join Class

Here you can create or join a class. Utilizing this feature allows players to view their ranking amongst friends or classmates in the PvP Arena, Rankings, Weekly Events, Exams, and The League.

The price of creating a class is $22.99/mo.

Aside from creating an area for people to see how they rank amongst classmates or friends, there aren’t many benefits to creating or joining. Of the few benefits, you get three attacks in the class arena, so it provides additional attack practice. However, there aren’t any prizes awarded for ranking well within your class like there are when competing globally.

Bottom left of the player card containing a summary of information
  • Grade – This is the grade in The Institution/Fluency Road. If the player is still within the institution, the numbers 0 through 8 will be displayed to reflect their grade. 0 means they are at the entrance and haven’t passed yet. Once a player graduates from The Institution, they move to Fluency Road. The letter L, followed by a number, indicates their level. There are 150 levels on Fluency Road. So, someone at that level would show as L150. Players can continue to advance their level past 150, but it is no longer part of the standard Fluency Road.
  • Likes – the number of likes received by comments left in the Study & Battle area and chats (global, class, and clan)
  • Clan – this only displays if a person is a member of a clan. A clickable link takes you to the clan’s info page, containing members, their W/L record, and other info.
  • Class – the class (group of players) the player belongs to. This is a number if it is a default class or something named if it is a custom class that was created.
  • Began – shows how long ago the player started playing
  • Beast Dex – the number of unique (bold) beasts the player holds. The max is 53 (includes the Golden Pegasus for collecting all other 52 beasts). Some test accounts may show a higher number, but the maximum is 53.
  • Words Mastered – Total number of words, sentences, grammar, and speech mastered. Requirements for mastery vary depending on the type of vocab.
  • Total Correct – total number of questions answered correctly in all game modes
  • Last Seen – the last time the player logged on

The middle area contains the following:

Middle section of the player card

Titles: You can earn titles through various accomplishments. Depending on the title, you can get a percentage boost, a points boost (added after all percentage boosts are calculated), or base points (added to your current base stats before adding percentage boosts, thus increasing attack and life more). These boosts are only given to your main beast.

Titles have four different colors and each one represents a category of title.

Blue: Blue titles are for individual accomplishments. With the exception of login streak titles, once you earn these, the titles will remain with you permanently. Examples include graduating from the speech institution, answering a certain number of questions correctly, or reaching a certain level on Fluuency Road.

Red: You earn these by winning a weekly, monthly. LangLympics, or tournament event, being the champion of an arena season, or winning a clan season. Aside from being the arena champion, most of these boosts are 1% to attack and life. You don’t lose these titles once they are earned. If you won these prior to the game update in December 2022, you won’t get these titles until you win one of those events again. They are not applied retroactively to that update.

Yellow: Any titles in the yellow category are obtained for holding the top spot in a specific area of the game. These can be lost if someone else obtains the top spot. Examples include most vocab mastered, highest grade, or having the top spot in your class.

Green: Green titles are earned for certain beast achievements, acquiring a certain number of spirits, or answering 100k vocab in multiple languages. For example, you can get a boost for having 5k or 10k battles won with a single beast (the title bonus only works for that particular beast, and it must be in the main slot), answering 100k questions correctly in two or more languages, obtaining a legendary spirit, or petting a single beast 5k or 10k times.

After clicking the Titles button on the player card, you’ll see the complete list of titles a player has obtained, the boost given, and requirements to get them.

  • Attack – the attack boost listed as a percentage or points
  • Life – the life boost listed as a percentage or points
  • Time Sensitive – this indicates if the title can only be earned within a certain amount of time of starting the game
  • Confirmed – whether the title has been confirmed by being seen on a player card or not. Some titles listed have been seen on a test account but may not have been officially released and seen on a non-test account yet.
    • Any unconfirmed titles will be marked with an “N” in the “Confirmed?” column.
  • Notes – additional context for earning the title is put here.

If there is a title you’ve found that isn’t listed in the table, submit a form using the button below and provide the title’s name, the player that has it, and which language server it is on (Spanish, German, Russian, etc.)

When challenging someone via practice battle or normal challenge, you can do so with even beasts or current beasts. Even beasts will better reflect your performance if all things are equal. However, doing it with current beasts will allow you to practice against someone in a scenario similar to the arena without impacting your rating.

You can only challenge someone if you are a Fluency Pass holder. Fluency Pass members can challenge both free and Fluency Pass players.

Challenge – the results of challenges show in the global or class chat, depending on what you choose. To be shown in the class chat, you must challenge someone in your class. Otherwise, the only option will be global. It will count as a victory towards the “Win FP Challenges” achievement that rewards traps if you win. Challenges have no impact on your ranking in the arena, and they consist of 10 questions.

Messages

The messages area has three tabs – Inbox, Sent, and Compose.

Message Options
Inbox area displaying the message options

You can receive messages from other users and updates from the game itself in your inbox. Messages from the game come when an update is available and for rewards for events such as tournaments and winning the clan boss challenge.

You’ll find any messages sent along with replies in the sent tab.

When working on the compose tab, you have a few different options. The first is to send a message to an individual user by typing their name in. You can send a message to a user through their player card too.

The following two options available are to send a message to current members of your clan or class. To do this, click on either the clan or class button located to the right of the “to” field.

Send a message to your entire clan or class by using one of the buttons in the compose area

Chat

The chat has a few areas depending on what you are a member of in the game. There are the global, class, and clan chats.

Chats available within the game

In the chat, you’ll find some people have additional icons next to their usernames. The first is a scroll that Fluency Pass members have. Next, if a person is a member of your class, they’ll have an icon that looks like a group of people. The top 100 players have a red 100 circle and their rank in black next to it. Lastly, if a player has a beast with a spirit, you’ll see the spirit icon along with their beast in the chat.

Outside of the various icons, the results of any challenges will appear in the chats. Normal challenges will appear either in the Global or Class chat, depending on the selection by the person sending the challenge. Sending challenges to fellow clan members while in the clan interface will result in the challenge only appearing in the clan chat.

The results are displayed in a banner, and the arrows can be used to scroll through the various challenge results. You’ll see if the challenge was fought with even or normal beasts.

Everyone has access to the global chat. This area is where all game members can chat with each other. LangLandia will also post any app updates and the winners of events here. Occasionally, the developer will reply in the chat with the LangLandia account to any issues. However, the best way to reach him is via e-mail.

If you are a member of a class or clan, you’ll find separate tabs for these. Click on these, and you’ll only be messaging members of those areas. Additionally, players can access clan chat through the Battle Online section and clicking on the clans area.

Sometimes the global chat gets spammed by a user. You can block this person by clicking their name and hitting the block icon on the top right of their player card. Blocking them prevents their messages from showing in the chat.

Shop

You have the option to purchase a shop to generate more coins. There are five levels of shops available. Each differs in coins generated per hour and the max amount of coins they can generate in a given time frame.

Below is a chart of each shop available for purchase. Whenever you buy a shop, you’ll choose between two different ones at each level. They will differ in the number of coins they can generate and how long they can generate coins.

Max Time: the amount of time the shop can collect coins before it maxes out, and you must collect before more coins generate.

Coins/Hr: The number of coins the shop generates each hour

Price: cost of the shop in coins

Max Daily Coins: The number of coins you can collect daily based on coins/hr and max time limits. This calculation assumes you are collecting coins at the exact time the bar maxes out each time.

Let’s use the apple and fish carts available at level one as an example.

The fish cart has a 4-hour max at two coins per hour. Meaning, at the four-hour mark, you’ll have eight coins available to collect. Once you collect, it will reset to zero coins and generate coins for the next four hours. If you don’t collect, the coin amount won’t surpass the eight coins there.

On the flip side, the fish cart has a max time of 12 hours at one coin per hour. So you’ll have 12 coins available to collect after 12 hours. Once you collect, it will generate coins again for the next 12 hours.

You can collect your coins at any time and don’t have to wait for the bar to max out. The tradeoff you’ll have at each level is how long you have before your shop stops collecting coins.

Shops with a lower max time generate more coins per hour. So if you check the game several times per day, go with the shop that produces the most per hour.

Once you purchase a shop, you can’t switch to the other one. You can only buy a different shop at the next level if you aren’t at level 5 yet. So, choose wisely.

Timed Chest

The chest in the bottom right-hand corner with the countdown timer shows when you can open this chest again. The blue meter will fill up as time goes on. You can find the same type of items in this chest as in other ones throughout the game.

However, you aren’t required to do anything to get it. You can open a new one once per hour. I feed my beast at the same time as collecting this chest so that they are in sync.

Timed Chest
Timed chest

Battle Chest

You need to win a specified number of battles to open this chest.

These victories can come from:

  • Study & Battle
  • The Arena (global and class)
  • Even Arena
  • FP Challenges
  • Practice Battles
  • The League (if 100% defeated)
  • The Institution
  • Speech Institution

Arena, Even Arena, Practice Battle, and FP Challenge attacks all count as a won battle just by attacking regardless of outcome. If defending an attack in those modes, however, the battle must be won to count towards a battle chest victory.

Battle Chest
Battle chest

Only one victory is needed to open the chest when starting the game. After that, it requires two, and so on until it requires five. Five is the maximum amount of battles needed to win to open a chest. After collecting the first four chests, this is the requirement going forward. The lower requirement initially is to help get items quickly.

Difference between Free and Fluency Pass Members

If you are a free member, you can’t open multiple chests at once. Suppose you win more than five battles before opening the chest. In that case, those extra wins won’t carry over, so you’ll want to open the chest as soon as winning five matches to avoid wasting wins.

For example, if the chest shows 13/5, you’ll only get one chest as a free player then the counter will reset to 0/5. However, if you have Fluency Pass, you’d open up two chests, and the counter would show 3/5. As a Fluency Pass holder, you can stack as many wins as possible without losing out on chests.

13-5 chests
Battle chest counter at 13/5
3-5 chests
Fluency pass members would have 3/5 remaining after collecting two chests
0-5 chests
If a free member, counter will reset back to 0/5 after collecting one chest

Trap and Explore

Here is where you can discover areas and trap beasts. Only The Cabin area is explored, where the wolf, tiger, and bear are found when initially starting. These are the same beasts to choose from when starting the game. The remainder of the entire map will be black.

To explore another map area, click on it, then select explore. You’ll then battle a beast using only your main beast. If you win, the site is unlocked, and the beasts available for capture reveal themselves. However, if you lose, it will remain locked until you defeat the beast. Areas must be explored before attempting to capture a beast there.

Explore Area
Dialogue box to explore a new area

The beasts native to that area are most likely to be caught. However, you can still capture beasts native to other regions on occasion. The rarer the beast, the less likely it is to be caught.

Click the area you have explored to trap a beast and select place trap. After placing the trap, the game reveals which beast was captured. Access the beast via your cabin.

Place Trap
Once a place is explored, click place trap to capture a beast.

The number of traps you have is viewable in the top left corner.

Traps

The other option is the beastiary which shows how many of the 55 beasts in the game you have obtained through contests, FP points, capturing, and purchase. Beasts will only show if you have them in your cabin. If you sell a beast and only have one of it, it will no longer show on the list.

Beastiary
View your beastiary by clicking the button on the top right
Beastiary
A view of the beastiary. Beasts captured will show while others will show as a black outline of the beast.

Of the 55 beasts, 51 are capturable. The remainder can be purchased with coins or money, won in monthly contests, obtained in a Super Chest, attained in Play & Learn Rewards, or earned by completing specific tasks in the game.

The four uncapturable beasts are as follows:

  • Fire Fairy
  • Dream Phoenix
  • Ice Dragon
  • Golden Pegasus – This is technically not on the map but has been captured by two different players.

For a breakdown of obtaining these, see the beasts section.

Of the 36 areas to explore, 16 are available to free members. One can access the remaining 20 by purchasing Fluency Pass.

To explore one of the 20 Fluency Pass areas once you are a paid member, you need to complete levels on Fluency Road. For every ten levels you complete, you can explore a new area.

If you try to explore before that, you’ll get a message when trying to explore.

Explore Error
Alert message if you haven't defeated enough beasts on Fluency Road to explore an area

You need to complete 190 levels of Fluency Road to unlock all 20.

The Fluency Pass areas are as follows:

  • The Dark Hedges
  • Trapper’s Trail
  • Crocodile Creek
  • The Floating Isles
  • Edgegrove
  • Waterfall Village
  • Fairy Falls
  • Misty Mountain
  • Windy Cliffs
  • Volcano Village
  • Misty Prairie
  • Misty Village
  • Crystal Pillars
  • The Fire Chasms
  • The Southern Slopes
  • Dragon’s Landing
  • The Cliffs of Insanity
  • South Ridge
  • The End of the World
  • Doom’s Drop

When trapping beasts, stick to trying to capture infamous and above. Most of the other beasts in the lower tiers will get captured when attempting to get the higher-level ones.

The most powerful beasts you can capture as a free member are the basilisk, night dragon, and saber tooth which are all legendary tiered beasts.

The following capturable beasts are uncapturable as a free user:

  • Aqua Fairy
  • Black Pegasus
  • Black Unicorn
  • Female Evil Troll
  • Fire Phoenix
  • Forest Fairy
  • Green T-Rex
  • Red T-Rex
  • Sky Phoenix

Stick to exploring areas with rarer beasts first. Capturing these rarer beasts will allow for advancing through the game quicker initially.

Trap and Explore Map

Below you’ll find the beasts contained in each area of the map. It is in the same order as the map on the game. Click on one of the gallery images to get a close-up of the beasts found there.

Beasts

The following section contains profiles of all beasts in the game. They are grouped into tiers from most powerful to least powerful. For each of the beasts, the base stats are listed along with base stats with max loyalty. The base stats reflect the beast stats at level 70 without considering loyalty, battle XP, titles, or spirits. The section with loyalty assumes a level 70 beast and the loyalty max of 22%. Additionally, I have listed the stats for each beast using The ONE Collar, Collar of the Gods, Ultimate Collar, or Unicorn Horn Spiked Collar for mythical, legendary, epic, elite, and very rare tiered beasts. Again, these stats assume the beast at level 70 and maxed loyalty along with the collar.

Beneath each beast, you’ll find either a found or obtained section. If the beast has a found section, it can be captured. The area to capture it is listed in this section. In the obtained section are other ways to get the beast. These methods include purchase (coins or money), FP Points, Super Chests, Play & Learn Rewards, or contests. If the beast is purchasable, you’ll find deal or buy beasts in parenthesis. These terms in parenthesis indicate the area of the store the beast can be purchased.

Tier - Mythical

Golden Pegasus (aka Golden Pony)

The first Golden Pegasus ever obtained has a base attack of 549 and life of 29,320. As of 1/28/24 there are 6 other known Golden Pegasuses. They have the base attack and life listed below.

Found: It is not listed on the map but has been captured in Language Journey multiple times. This appears to be due to a bug where it appears after someone has 52 beasts. In one instance, it didn’t appear until the Ice Dragon was one of the 52, but it’s uncertain if this is a requirement. Known locations of capture are the Fire Chasms and Misty Mountain.

Obtained: Awarded after getting all other beasts in the game.

There are also reports from some players that they have an attack of 497 and life 27,633. So, this beast could be stronger, the same, or slightly weaker than the Ice Dragon, depending on the version. For now, the historical attack and life is listed below until I can confirm what the attack and life should be going forward.

These last four make up the lower portion of the epic tier. While their base stats are mostly the same, at times there are differences. While not confirmed, it appears more powerful versions of these beasts occur when they are caught at level 70.

Here are the typical base stats:

Tier - Elite

The Elite tier consists of four beasts. Three of the four can be obtained when playing the free version. The Green T-Rex is the only one that can’t be caught in the free version.

These four have the same base stats with some outliers.

In rare instances the Moon Griffin and Snow Unicorn will have more powerful base stats of 413 attack and 24,667 life. For Snow Unicorns, the split is 85% normal and 15% outlier. The Moon Griffin is about 65% normal to 35% outlier. I found this to be the case after going through the beasts of the top 100 players. The Direwolf and Green T-Rex appear to remain in the normal range but they had a much smaller sample size to evaluate.

Fluency Pass Points

A great way to accumulate items, coins, and beasts is through the monthly Fluency Pass Points area. You don’t need to be a Fluency Pass holder to earn rewards. However, Fluency Pass holders have access to more and better rewards.

Located in the middle of the screen, it displays the progress towards the next level of rewards and, when clicked, takes you to the rewards area.

Home Screen - Fluency Pass

The top area shows the season, time remaining, next reward meter, and the ability to toggle between rewards and quests.

Season and Time Remaining

Each season takes up an entire month, so the number of days in each season may vary. The time displays the amount of time remaining before a new season begins. Each new season comes with new rewards and beasts available to earn.

Next Reward Meter

Each day when things reset, the game awards FP points. These are what the meter is monitoring. In the beginning, reaching the next level requires fewer points. Starting at level 19, 500 points are required to advance to each of the next levels.

Prior to joining a clan, if I participated in the arena and all events, I got to level 50 with about a week left as long as I did all of the FP Quests each day. Below is a chart showing the points needed at each level and the total points required to reach level 50.

Rewards

When selecting the rewards button, the rewards area is displayed. This area has two sections, Fluency Pass and free.

Rewards Icon
Fluency Pass and free rewards areas

The Fluency Pass area contains rewards only for paid members. The free section has rewards for everyone. Being a Fluency Pass holder gets you rewards from the Fluency Pass and free sections.

Rewards include coins, points, chests, traps, potions, attacks, collars, and beasts.

Fluency Pass holders receive more and better items than free users.

  • Beasts – FP gets legendary and fabled level (excluding Forest Fairy, Red T-Rex, and Sky Phoenix). Free users can earn infamous level beasts.
  • Collars – FP awards up to Dragonplate collars. In contrast, the highest level you can get as a free player is Crocodile Tooth. Lower-Tier collars are more common in the free area (cloth, feather, fur)
  • Item Amounts – coins, potions, points, and traps are typically awarded in larger quantities

Here is a breakdown of the awards given for March, April, and May of 2022 and their total coin value. The coin value is if you sold all earned items and beasts.

Earning FP Points and Advancing Levels

The FP points area contains 50 levels. Each level presents a new reward, with the 50th level awarding a beast. If you are a Fluency Pass holder, you get 100 coins each time you fill the bar after level 50. You’ll need to click on the 100 coin area to collect.

Additional coins area for FP holders once completing level 50

*Tip: Collecting 100 coins after passing level 50 can be glitchy. Have your volume up and click it until you hear the *ca-ching* sound.

You earn FP points in two ways: ranking in various areas and completing FP Points quests.

Here are the areas you can earn points:

  • Arena Rank (Global only)
  • Exams/The League Rank
  • Weekly Event Rank
  • Clan Rank
  • Login Streak

You get 50 points plus 1 point per day of your login streak. So, for example, if you’ve logged in for 150 straight days, you will get 200 points. This applies to those with longer streaks. If you are starting out you don’t get 50 points plus one for each day. It’s uncertain what the threshold login streak is to get 50 plus 1 per each day.

The points are awarded as follows based on rank.

Quests

Clicking on the quest area brings you to your daily quests to earn more FP points. You can earn up to 630 FP points each day through these four areas. Keep in mind that these daily quests differ from the other daily quests area.

The areas below show the number of times you can do the event in a day in parenthesis, followed by the number of points earned if you complete all of them.

Complete Daily Quests

Daily quests display on the main screen by clicking the book labeled “Quests.” The type of activities to complete varies. However, if you complete all of them in a day, you are awarded 200 FP points. We’ll cover daily quests in-depth later in the guide.

Win a Battle

You are awarded 5 FP points per battle won.

Winning battles in these areas count toward that total:

  • Study & Battle
  • Even Arena
  • Global Arena
  • Class Arena
  • The League – must defeat beast 100%
  • FP Challenges
  • Practice Battles

When it comes to Even Arena, Global Arena, Class Arena, FP Challenges, and Practice Battles using an attack counts as a won battle regardless of if the person defending ends up defeating you. However, if you are defending an attack, you must win the battle for it to count.

Do an Arena Attack

This section is pretty self-explanatory. If you use an arena attack, you get 10 FP points. One thing to note is that if you’re a free member, you only get five arena attacks each day. However, if you join a class (like the free Reddit one), you get an additional three attacks in the class arena, which gets you to the eight total attacks to fill the bar.

Fluency Pass members get eight global arena attacks, so joining a class isn’t necessary to max them out. Even Arena attacks don’t count towards this.

Feed Your Beasts

Beasts can be fed once per hour, so in 24 hours, you need to feed your beast ten times to collect the rewards. You’ll get ten points each time.

Store

The store has a variety of items for purchase with either coins or real money. It has many sections.

Referral

You’ll find information on the rewards given for referring someone in this area of the store. The player must sign up for Fluency Pass and stay for eight days before the rewards are given. Referring people is a great way to get a lot of coins quickly and get one of the rarer beasts in the game without using real money or having to win a contest.

Once the referral converts, you’ll get a message from LangLandia containing the rewards and the username of the player that used you as a referrer.

Store - Referral

Here is a quick breakdown of the rewards:

  • 80,000 coins if someone signs up for the yearly Fluency Pass and completes eight days
  • 20,000 coins if someone signs up for a monthly Fluency Pass and completes eight days
  • Dream Phoenix if five referrals complete their trials and stay for eight days
  • There is no limit on the number of prizes given for referrals

If you sign up for Fluency Pass, use my username QuantumSpanish in the referrer field.

Deals

The deals area contains a new deal each day. They are random and range from beasts, collars, coins, points, and traps.

Beasts

You’ll be able to purchase beasts with coins in this area regardless of if you are a free or Fluency Pass member. The Ice Dragon is there daily, but the other beasts rotate each day.

The following beasts are available:

  • Ice Dragon – 900k coins
  • Red T-Rex – 150k coins
  • Night Dragon – 70k coins
  • Moon Griffin – 45k coins
  • White Lion – 25k coins

These prices are accurate as of February 2024 but keep in mind prices have changed throughout time.

While the Ice Dragon was a reward for winning a contest in the game’s early stages, purchase is the only way to get it now.

The Red T-Rex, Night Dragon, Moon Griffin, and White Lion can be caught in Language Journey as well. Unlike the Red T-Rex and Moon Griffin, the Night Dragon and White Lion can be obtained via the FP Monthly rewards.

Buy Beasts

Beasts available in this area require money to purchase. Only the Dream Phoenix ($249.99), Fire Fairy ($169.99), Forest Fairy ($42.99), and Unicorn ($11.99) are available here. The Dream Phoenix and Forest Fairy appear one day and the Fire Fairy and Unicorn the other. They continue to alternate every other day. These show up randomly in the deals section for $119.99, $79.99, $19.99, and $5.99 respectively. So, it’s better to wait for these deals if you plan on purchasing them with money.

Collars

The Collar of the Gods, The Ultimate Collar, and Unicorn Horn Spiked Collar appear daily and are available to purchase with coins. They are three of the top four collars (The ONE Collar being the top). Although rare, the Ultimate and Unicorn Horn Spiked collars appear in chests. The Ultimate Collar has been awarded in multiple contests.

For context, I have opened 3,244 chests and have gotten one Ultimate Collar and two Unicorn Horn Spiked Collars.

Buying Collars
Collars area of the store

If you’d like to spend real money on a collar, The ONE Collar, Collar of the Gods, and The Ultimate Collar appear in the deals section from time to time for $169.99, $59.99, and $19.99, respectively. The ONE Collar is only available at random intervals in the deals section for a purchase price of 800k coins.

Classroom

As discussed in the settings section, this allows you to create a class with students or friends. There aren’t too many benefits to it, but it is available if you want to use it.

Buy Coins

Coins can be purchased with real money in 60k, 9k, 3.9k, and 600 coin increments. If you plan to buy coins, my advice would be to do so when the Correct Cup weekly event occurs. Since the event awards coins for completing weekly challenges of purchasing coins.

Buying Coins

Buy Super Chests

The super chests are available for purchase in increments of 5, 12, 65, and 400. It’s possible to obtain spirits, gemstones, beasts, collars, traps, food, points, and coins with them.

The strongest beast that is obtainable in a super chest is the fire fairy, and the strongest collar is The ONE Collar.

There is an increased chance of getting spirits and gemstones with purchased Super Chests over free ones.

Rankings

The rankings section contains class competitions and plenty of information on each player. You can view rankings based on class or the top 100. To qualify for the top 100, you need to be top 100 in questions answered correctly. However, a player’s level in The Institution and Fluency Road determines their rank.

Class Competitions

Upon opening the rankings section, your first view is class competition. There are three competitions, and they all involve having the most questions answered correctly in a given time frame.

Additionally, you can access the class chat, view your class name, and toggle between the current and last week’s competition results.

Stats available for viewing are:

You can sort any of the categories by clicking on the heading.

Grade

As previously mentioned, this is the grade in The Institution and Fluency Road.

The Institution consists of the entrance and eight grades. If the player hasn’t completed the entrance area yet, their level displays as 0.

Once they pass the entrance area, their level displays 1, and so on. Upon graduating from The Institution, the level shows as L1. This indicates all eight grades are complete, and the player is on the first level of Fluency Road.

Fluency Road is only available to Fluency Pass members, so most free members will remain at L1 unless they had Fluency Pass for a while and then quit the subscription.

There are 150 standard levels for Fluency Pass members, 25 at each of the six Fluency Road levels. If they have completed everything, they will show L151. The level always indicates the number of levels completed plus 1. Members with levels over 151 have completed additional battles even though it isn’t a part of Fluency Road.

Total Correct

The number of correct questions answered in any mode is listed here. These include speech, Study & Battle, arena, exams, the league, etc.

Top Arena

The top rank the player has had in the global arena. Few players have won the arena, so not many have 1st. The top few have won it multiple times.

Speech

In addition to the regular Institution and Fluency Road, there is also the Speech Institution. This mode is only available to Fluency Pass members. If a player hasn’t started it, there will be a dash.

Each Speech Institution level has three bosses to beat. So, if a player is at the entrance and defeats the first boss, it will be displayed as 0-1. A player who just finished the 13th level (the entrance, eight grades, and the first five levels of Fluency Road) will display as 14-0. While they have started level 14, they have won no battles yet. After they defeat the first, it will show as 14-1, following the second win 14-2, and once the third boss is defeated, it will display as L1, meaning they have completed the Speech Institution in its entirety.

Like the regular Institution and Fluency Road, players can exceed L1 by completing additional levels that aren’t a part of it.

Weekly Wins

Displays how many times a player has won one of the weekly events of Correct Cup, Exam Battle, Boss Royale, and Even Arena.

Exam Wins

The number of times the player won the daily exam.

League Wins

How many times the player ranked 1st in the daily league.

Vocab Mastered

Total common words, verbs, grammar, sentences, and numbers a player has mastered. More vocab is available to Fluency Pass members, so they’ll typically have more vocab mastered. Review this section to see the specifics of your vocab mastered.

Beast Dex

This number shows how many unique beasts the player has. The max is 53. Players with all beasts will have the Golden Pegasus. In the rankings, it may show they only have 52 beasts, however, they had all beasts prior to the Fire Fairy being added in September 2022.

Likes

Amount of likes someone has from comments left on vocab and various chats. Players with more likes typically competed in the monthly likes competition for Fluency Pass members.

Login Streak

The number of consecutive days the player has logged in.

Daily Quests

You’ll find here two things: Daily Quests progress and Achievements. Both are great ways to accumulate more coins and items by completing various tasks.

Daily Quests Tasks

As previously mentioned, completing all daily tasks awards 200 FP points. The tasks depend on your progress in the game and whether you are a Fluency Pass or a free member.

At the top, you can select among various quests. The prize for completing all tasks varies depending on your selection. If doing the offline quest, a trap is awarded. Otherwise, it’s 1-3 super chests. Aside from the offline and short FP/Clan option, you must do arena attacks. So if you don’t join the arena, those daily quests won’t be an option to complete.

If you are a Fluency Pass member, you have the option to avoid doing a speech task by using the toggle. However, since free members don’t get speech mode, it won’t be an option for them.

Choose Daily Quest
Choose your daily quest

Tasks vary greatly depending on progress in the game and membership status, so I’ll cover potential general tasks.

Tasks consist of:

  • Study & Battle
  • Collecting coins from your shop
  • Feeding your beast
  • Using points
  • Trapping a beast
  • Exploring an area of the map
  • Reading books
  • Using arena attacks
  • Completing an exam
  • Battling five beasts in the league
  • Selling a collar
  • Answering a certain number of questions
  • Defeating an Institution boss.

A note for Fluency Pass members, defeating a Fluency Road boss stops being a task after you get past L100.

You are awarded coins, points, or potions for each task completed.

Super chests offer the opportunity to get spirits, collars (up to The ONE collar), beasts, traps, coins, potions, points, and food. Obtaining spirits, beasts, and powerful collars is less common. Most of your prizes in the chest will be food, coins, potions, points, and traps.

Achievements

There are many possible achievements, so I won’t cover each individually. However, they are a great way to accumulate many coins, traps, points, potions, and attacks depending on the achievement completed.

Many of the achievements increase the payout after achieving it. For example, an achievement may initially award coins for completing 25 of a task. After completing it, you need to complete 50 of the task but receive double the number of coins for achieving the next milestone.

Many of the tasks limit the total number of rewards you can get for them. Once that occurs, they move to the bottom of the list.

Completed Achievements

Whether you’re a Fluency Pass or a free member, you can achieve rewards from achievements. However, Fluency Pass members have access to better and more rewards. If it is a Fluency Pass achievement, you’ll see the scroll icon.
